REST RESET REFLECT

What is "rest?"  I ask myself.  Traveling through light and time with a mile-a minute mind reminds me of the Cheetah running at top speed, zero to 60 mph in seconds flat.  But the Cheetah doesn't run very far at a time.  Rest comes quickly, the Cheetah is not a stamina runner.  A cool shady bush if near will do for a reset of the body-mind-spirit.

Leftover Paint paints the Cheetah

What is "leftover paint?" That's paint left on the palette after a painting session ends.  I just pick up the remaining paint and apply it to another canvas...."to be finished later."  Some of the most interesting pictures develop from leftover paint.  It is a type of "reset" and even "reflection" to come into wholeness in a future moment of unplanned creativity.
Painting is my comfort zone.

And now the year in winding down again toward new beginnings, changes, and wonders.

Can I Op Out of the mad rush for "faster, faster, faster" and come to a moment of slow down and needed rest?   "Every moment is a chance to reset and relax.  Every moment, I can change my thoughts to include kindness and empathy."

Outer Reality/Inner Reality/Unbounded Reality are moments and mirrors for reflection and contemplation.  An unlimited path of possibilities awaits as I reflect, "waiting impatiently."

Running with the Cheetah

What am I thankful for "Today?"  I am thankful to be here "just as I am."

Friends through the years speak:

"I honor my sacred journey, I honor the sacred journey of others."

"I keep you warm in my heart."

"The universe works differently than is commonly supposed."

"Let the petals of your life unfold like a rose opening, one at a time and each in perfect order."

"Every Life Matters."

Rest Reset Reflect

GOLDEN SILENCE

Twigs and Branches

Autumn is winding down.  Yet this year, some trees are still in full leaf and color.  Gold coin leaves still sparkle on the trees. Brushes of sunlight flicker over my autumn paintings springing to life with deep meanings of color, light, and dimension.

*Claude Monet
French Impressionist Master of color and light, paints autumn like no other....light shimmers, painted meditations, feelings of serenity.

Monet painted out of doors to observe the ever changing patterns of hues and tones, textures and atmosphere.  Just viewing the scenes brings peace and contentment, joy and wonder.  Monet painted surfaces and depths simultaneously.  The paint is incidental.

Orange and Green against the Cerulean Sky

Air is pure and clear, leaves sing out, harmonic patterns stitched together.

Just so fun to look at autumn embers.

"Sunlight Flickered" I wrote many years ago as I watched the shadows and light dance over  my paintings stacked in the living room, waiting for their new places around the home.  Boxes and crates, yet unpacked waiting impatiently to be discovered.  A moment of quiet happened as sunlight expanded and widened my view.

This Autumn, I lost my speaking voice to temporary allergy, and found new meaning in the words "Silence is Golden."

This Autumn, I watch the light again and again....traveling minute by minute, frame by frame, dancing silently across the paintings.  Gazing out the window at sunset I see pinks, purples, russet and flaming orange in skies and leaves.  A dust of finest snow dots the grass like powdered sugar sprinkles.

The Universe Within

* "So the story goes I'm told...."

How have I streamlined this year?  Some progress, some fast forward and rewind all at once.... Experimental: something new, small pocket paintings, new techniques, more spontaneous writing, fun and freedom, and observing ever changing light.

I put on writing music:  light yet edgy.  I choose Pancho and Lefty sung by Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard.  I turn it up....as I write, I reduce the volume to very low, and then, gradually the music will disappear, words vanish first.

Someone asked me once, "What are your main areas of focus?"
"I am a number and word person."

I am exactly opposite!

First: Pictures, images, photos, freeze frames or stills, or streams (slideshows) of pictures, art work, paintings, stonework and architecture, nature scenes.  Hands Down~ First Place, pictures, dreaming or awake.

Second:  Auditory Music, melody or theme based, sometimes samples or bits (loops) of songs or fragments from various types of music.  Lyrics are secondary, if they are there at all.  Music plays through my head nearly all the time.

I live through pictures and music, "the great escape" into the creative world. I always write and paint with music by my side, creative waves of calming and focus, inner inspirations.

* "And sank into your dreams...."

Back to the song of the day, Pancho and Lefty.

* "His Horse Was Fast as Polished Steel...."

In the early days of TV (real early) I watched The Cisco Kid, The Lone Ranger, Roy Rogers, and Gene Autry.  I love horses and was starting to draw and paint them.  I ignored the plots and dialogue (I still do).  I concentrated on only the horses!  How grand the horses were, and smart too:  Silver and Scout, Diabolo, Champion, and Trigger with Buttermilk.  Dogs on parade like Lassie the Collie, and German Shepherds Rin Tin Tin and Bullet sharpened my focus as I sketched away.

TV or Not TV, my how you have changed.

Radio also took me out of my everyday world.  Before I went to school, I'd make up picture movies in my head telling stories to accompany my favorite songs.

The World has Become "Sooner than Now."

* "But that's the way it goes..."

Yesterday I tried some of these techniques....they actually worked!  "Imagine~"

Unhurried times of simple creativity are bringing back joy, even a few minutes!  For example:

Turning off the TV in the evening after 8 PM helped a lot!

One evening I painted eyes of a kitten portrait, a few minutes of high concentration and detail.

The same evening on a pre-painted canvas showing blue background and wispy clouds, I followed up with a bit of free form mountains.  I cut the mountain shapes into the sea of blue and clouds with palette knives!  What Fun!  I felt like a woodcarver!  Fortunately I had saved my ancient tools from college art classes.  All this with leftover paint from the kitten session..."1 hour" total.

Last night I enjoyed a bit of creative reading, some short bits "I" wanted to read.
"10 minutes"

"Tonight" I am reliving these moments of creative joy by writing!  "30 minutes"

Time to quit for this evening, and still enjoy some music and relaxation then restful sleep.

Another evening:  splicing pictures into blog and proofreading:  20 minutes

BITS 'N' PIECES

Cosmic Jigsaw Puzzle

Spider Webs at Sunrise

I pick up bits and pieces all the time:
painting
writing
thinking
feeling
seeing
living
dreaming/asleep/awake

Organizing, well that's another story category.  Again, bits of stray data, photos, memories and more are stored in small files or boxes in my imaginary vision board picture memory.  Music is there too, physical and non physical meaning I can hear melodies in full sound in my head (even overnight) or listening to a repeating track of choice.  All styles of music appear.

How much is genetic memory I question?  Meaning how much intuition is here, leading me to locations, buildings, countries, painters, musicians of interest, familiar animals or even foods I lke.  Friends enter mainly through teaching, again by intuition and synchronicity.

Recently I was watching a weather map, with various models and forecasts.  I realized I was hyperfocusing on only small bits of data at one time.  The forecaster spoke, colors, changes, news ticker flashes across the bottom, watches and warnings paraded across the screen.  I realized if I read the current news ticker, all else vanished!  If I listened to the voice or watched the screen changes, I was only picking up (in clear detail) exactly what I was focusing on at the moment, and nothing else....nothing.

Radar swooped and beamed on the screen in circular swirls, keeping me focused.  I stood up to better concentrate on the unpridictable weather paths in motion.

Now music is rolling as I write, but vanishing from focus in the whirl of words and concentration of creativity.  I turn the volume down to near nothing.

* Start Game:  You Are Here

I also realized, while watching documentaries, how slowly I actually pick up important details or the big picture, a full circle of completion.  That explains why I like to watch shows over and over and take notes.  Each time viewing, or even a segment of the show, I pick up more and more visually plus informative additions.  Some of these "bits and pieces" even get written into stories.

"Random and unrelated bits slice into wholeness."

Repeating predictable music is calming, lilting.

TRAVELING LIGHT

OK Story started then vanished.....

OH COME ON~

I am having an Out of Sink experience

That sinking feeling....."Out of Order"

Out of Sync

Start Again.....

Breathe....
The first picture reminds me of a boat ride at night, bright blue water with waves.
A silver beam of light is on the horizon....it shimmers and glows.

What do you see?

Zoe lay flat on the carpet and took the first photo above.  The carpet texture gives the feeling of water and a silver light slice is creeping under the door.

All of these photos are a personal photo project by Zoe during a winter polar vortex event.  Wind howled and scratched like wolves at the door, windows rattled..."chill out" became a living reality.

* "….white stallion running....thunder and mountains, roar of the sea...."

*  [wind is the]
"weaver of darkness"   (the longest night)

* "bringer of dawn...."  (Will dawn ever come?)

"Ice Box" sends a new meaning.

A bit of green is here...blue and green nourishing yet "cooling" colors, shadows of light.

ALL WAYS

* World Tai Chi Day in 2019 is Celebrated on Saturday, April 27, at 10 AM in your Time Zone all around the world!

White Cranes Spread Wings

Tai Chi players meet in groups, or alone if you wish, in nature, or indoors depending on the weather, in silence or with music or bird songs or babbling brooks or gentle rainfall.  In sun in mist, even in snow or high deserts, we gather in the space of ** One World one Breath to Pratice Tai Chi and Qigong.

It was a great life changing day on August 7,1997, when my son Rob got me into good enough shape so that I was able to attend my very first class, a Tai Chi in the Park Experience.

I hid behind (not in) the back row in a group of advanced Tai Chi players led by Jiong Gu, a Chinese Medical Doctor, orginally from Shanghai.  I became invisible as I followed the routine Rob had shown me, the 108 synchronized movements of the Gu Family Style of the Yang Long Form.

"I felt I would return next week and the next...."

I read, I studied, I practiced at home, I made drawings, I painted, colors lightened and brightened, I felt better, I worked hard, I rested well.

The Tai Cheetah
Paintings Became More Fun

And then Dr Gu said, "You need to meet experts."  And so I traveled to meet them, a parade of professionals teaching in USA from China and Taiwan and Australia....who could believe?

One day, long ago, Dr. Gu promoted me to Form Practice Leader.  My first day as leader, "I stood in silent terror as the flag beat loudly against the flagpole in the brisk chilly wind."  Students spread out behind me in fan shape, waiting.  I pressed "play" button on the music machine.  "And so it bagan...."

All these years ego, eye blinks in time, who would predict, especially me that I would still enjoy leading and teaching?  Who would fathom the paintings, photos, writings, and friends that appeared and still appear without effor, thanks to Tai Chi practice.

TIMED MACHINES

* "I Pay Creatively  in the Field of Time," Deepak Chopra, Nov 2017

Dishwasher Windchimes
As I loaded the silver basket  into the dishwasher (I have 4 baskets of different sizes and uses), I noticed the silver in its slots danced and waved back and forth, hitting each other with a tinkling sound, sort of like a flock of spring birds chirping.  Orange, the cat, jumped up instantly and ran for the door, then outside like a bolt of gold.  He is anxious when he hears large numbers of birds, perhaps swooping at him?

Continuing on:

I love machines running smoothly and "on time" starting and stopping....like clockwork, easy and predictable.  I want easy.

"Time Management"
4 processes all finished at once:
cooked chicken placed into freezer
cooked vegetables cooling down
dryer turned off, clothes ready
dishwasher cycle turned off

All completed at the same "time" with the aid of only one timer~ unplanned but great!

** Chef Alton Brown would be proud, I thought smiling.  He is big on time and temperature sensors and timers~  He might say:  "We have 30 seconds to perfectly melted one ounce of unsweetened baking chocolate."  Sometimes I have two timers going at once, timing different functions.  "All Good" for a smoother running task force. Or even to schedule a relaxing break or snack.

Reset

Rewind

Replay

Well running machines purr like kittens....

I chuckled to myself as I imagined the phone ringing:
"Mum's machine shop, Mum ain't here."

AND THEN one day I noticed....

"Dishwasher won't shut off?"

Humm, it is running a "long time."  I usually figure the machine shuts itself off after about one hour, but it "seemed " to be running on and on.  Of course I set a timer...."I'll give the dishwasher 20 more minutes" and listen carefully.  Oh Oh, it's still running....OK  Manually "drain/cancel."   Now What?  I manually ran the 10 minute rinse only cycle, and it did shut down "on time."

OK!  Next load, I'll listen to the cycles and (help) write them down on a note pad....first soak and drain, 2nd and 3rd rinse drain cycles BUT NO SHUT OFF....the dishwasher kept on running like the brooms coming to life and dumping water to flood levels in the old castle in the *** Sorcerer's Apprentice in the Movie Fantasia ....a runaway project out of control.

Well, I kept "time" track on the errant dishwasher, and "still no shut off."  I baby sat the machine and supervised turn off and extra rinse...

Hours of Time drifts and shifts and blurred back and forth....in bits and pieces.  So Tired....running wild with a runaway dishwasher.

Repair?  New Machine?  I checked the trouble shoot manual suggestions....

Weary....I cannot sleep through the cycles as I am used to doing during a nap. Worse yet, no more great bedtime dish wash while I sleep peacefully....growl.

We c
hecked the drains and cleaned them, paid more attention to disposal use and grind.  Continued usual white vinegar "rinse only" cycles twice a week on washing machine and dishwasher...

ONE DAY:  The dishwasher "seemed to turn off by itself?"  WHAT?  I ran to the kitchen!  Silence, no grinding motor....the light panel was lit with the close down lights.  Is it real?

The dishwasher actually reset itself!  I checked again and again....but YES, for "now" it is working.

Cheetahs, machines, and Mum only run when they have to....

How did this happen?
