"Preparing to Scan"

Drawing the Curtain

In the previous post, Drawing the Curtain,  I thought about "drapery studies" but, until today, I didn't have "time" to try one.  Interesting as the pen made lace-like effects from the solid print curtain on its rod.

Drawing the curtain is hard!  I want something easy....How about:

Drawing the Puppy

Drawing a puppy from memory is fun, no specific animal, free of agenda, mind on autopilot, an evolving door.  Steps of drawing an animal friend are suggested, go lightly at first, then darken as the images becomes more clear and sure.

Now for a more specific dog.  To fix "Blue" more in my memory bank, I add "details" such as eye color, coat color, expression, personality and feeling freedom with the sketch.  Sketching is more powerful than we think!

"Preparing to Write"

1-2-3 JRNL
*I heard a suggestion today about daily self care.  Grab a journal or a piece of paper and write free style about anything at all for only three minutes.  You can shred it afterward if you like.

"I can do that!"

Here's what I wrote:

Standing on the precipice of writing, I feel like I'm standing on the high dive.

I look down into the shimmering crystal turquoise water.

What do I  feel?  Think?

Where am I?

Who am I?

A grain of sand in the ocean of time

Roses in Lace

Drawing the Curtain?  What does it mean?  Close the curtain on a chapter of your life, a memory?  Open the curtain to a new sunny day, a new beginning, a new perspective?

Years ago in art class, we penciled, crayoned, charcoaled, and painted "drapery studies."  What value does this have if any?  We painted draped sheets, clothes, patterns in colors and blacks and whites.  We learned about the grey scale and how to paint and define shadows?  What?  I learned about sharp edges and soft, about thick and thin, about solids, transparents, and translucent effects.  I learned against my will.

I love lace curtains.  I love them from ages past.  I remember my mom stretched newly washed sheer curtains on stretcher boards to dry before hanging again.  I stayed away from stretcher boards because I might easily prick my fingers on the needle sharp projections.

Mrs. Harris, the cat, studies shadows and light.

*Pretty Lace with Green Plant

I love patterned lace, some with wheels, or rosettes embedded into the designs.  Drapery study techniques are useful in this painting

Curtains of Light

One midmorning, lavender light came in through the window.  The sheer white curtains, tinged with a blend of red and blue light rays, blended into a stunning hue in the spring sunlight.  Patterns shifted and vibrated, almost like mountains and water and rays of light.

Use the sky as your blank paper....

Sifting through Archives, I pull out a paper.  On it is a poem written by a friend.  I read the message and marvel at the words and rhythm of the moment.

Wolves we are
Moonlight Above
Running together

Wolves we are
Peaceful and Serene
Together and Alone

I got a picture in my mind.  I hunted it down.  Here it is~

             Kerry and Black Wolf

It turned "pink?"

Wait a minute....The black and white painting is not tinted pink~  Kerry looks his usual black and tan.  I'll leave it as "pink" or other color or colors your device may pick up.  Go Figure.

The above painting is a remake of the one below, the original watercolor dream, painted from a different angle.  Will the wolf cross the pond?  Is it frozen?  Is it solid?  His coat is shaggy with snow.  His slanted eyes show deep intent.  Spring  snow?  It is still present in some areas of the USA mountains.

Who is Black Wolf?
Originally Black Wolf was an image that came to me years ago. I had a dream vision of a black lone wolf coming to a frozen pond.  I sketched a watercolor.  Crossing or Not?

               Thin Ice

** Meanwhile I saw a video called the Rise of Black Wolf, a wolf like no other, a wolf who broke all the rules, from National Geographic Wild.
Eventually I painted a portrait picture of Black Wolf, surrounded by blue and green.  Later a friend took Black Wolf home.

Who is Kerry?
Kerry is one of my three German Shepherd dog plastic sculptures from ***Breyer, sold as portraits of Roy Rodger's dog Bullet from the TV series, for kids who liked animals.  Naturally I named all the dogs and marked all them differently.  Each had his name and personality.  Kerry is the dark coated one.  Kerry is more playful than Jerry, his sire.  I also still have Prince, Jerry's lion-like brother.

I loved pencil sketching endless drawings of the dog models, teaching me how to draw and how to shade the muscular bodies and practice fetching expressions.  Collies had lots of coat, covering their structure.  It was easier to learn from a shorter coated dog model.

Tai Chi Around the World happens this year on Saturday, April 29, 2017.  Celebrate in your time zone at 10AM, alone or in groups, outdoors or indoors.

How does Tai Chi make me feel?  Help me heal?  Receive calm and pace?  Feel more alive?  Bring in friends to care and share?

All of the above!

Recently I sorted through some long ago drafts of spontaneous writing.  I read again:
* "Sounds of the city, sifting through trees, settles like dust...."

Now I am recalling Tai Chi class when I was learning the Yang Long Form, 88 pattern.  I stood behind the back row, and not in it.  Sort of like life, being the observer rather than the participant.  I like the feeling of invisibility and detachment.

** I think about Jou, Tsung Hwa's book, The Dao of Taijiquan  I think about timelessness tucked into one of his chapters.  I think "cosmic," I think  "how appropriate."  I read:

"Reaching the state of mind called Ju-Ting is a wonderful experience yet very hard to describe.  One feels nothing in the mind, like blankness; the whole body seems to be in a vacuum....Both the inside and the outside of the body feel very comfortable.  This state could be described as a small amount of Yang within Yin.  There is no response to sound or other distractions.  One...still knows a little about oneself....imagine what it is like to concentrate so deeply on an interesting book [or painting, or sculpting or writing, or inventing, or anything] that the outside world is forgotten....(p. 146)."

Can Tai Chi Help Me?
Tai Chi is for all age groups, walking paths, patterns, and timelines of individual yet connected lives.

*** "I honor my sacred journey.  I honor the sacred journey of others."

Tai Chi Benefits:
feel calm and centered
social groups
personal awareness, awareness in the moment
mind-body integration
breath, focus on senses, intuition, and nature around you
attention and intention
meditation in motion, relax while exercising

Tai Chi gives me a feeling of authentic self acceptance.  I am both the subject and object of my experiment.

Like spring flowers, Tai Chi invites awakening of full potential in all areas of life.

**** Tai Chi honors flexibility in mind, body, and spirit.  The bamboo is flexible, it can bend very low with the high wind or It can stand up straight and tall.  The bamboo accepts abundance of rain, yet can endure drought conditions until the rains bathe it again.  "Become like bamboo."

Writing with *Leaves

Recently we received a Peace Lily.  It grew and flourished.  Tiny buds appeared as if by magic.  Many white ones opened sporting gold centers.  Then, a greenish one reached skyward.

"It will soon turn white," I thought.

Several days Passed. "Not happening.  It has a green center"

"Turning Green."

It's All Random:
I picked up another story draft (Colors of Love, Sept 1998) and, neatly typed, I read:

Why the green?  In color therapy
** green is sometimes referred to as the 'master color. ' which benefits all conditions.  One always has the option of choosing green, when uncertain about the best color for correcting an imbalance.  Green can be used for strengthening weaknesses.  Green, the color associated with spring, is...the color of renewal.  According to Chinese medicine, green has a healing value for the liver.

Color therapy uses color from light or...materials to augment healing.  It is applied in a variety of healing arts....psychologists and businesses [can use color] to motivate specific behavior patterns.

Sifting through random drafts and bits of writing, I discover a story of long ago::

All Alone in the Universe

March 17, 1998

Pausing to read, I relive:

Silver rain rinses down out of a leaden sky.  It looks like my painting of Mont-Saint-Michel in the rain-fog of the Normandy coast as it rests on the wall here in my office....The paint has a grey and green look of Saint Patrick's Day in mid March.  I'm walking in the mist of ghosts of the past.

* Come he come say, ride on the night
Sun become day, day shall provide....

She dance for the sun...
Seek for the way, takin' me home....

She callin',
Bring home my name....

Wind in the plains
Dance once for me....

I pause.  The song Sooliamon recently came to my attention in the previous post, March Forward.  What at the odds?

Reading On:
The music brings up images and feelings of ages past as well as present and future time.  I feel a restless sadness wash over me as I sit at the window and wash the rain (notice I typed "wash" the rain instead of "watch" the rain.)  It's probably just the greyness of an Illinois winter washing away...

But it's more than that.  I stand all alone in the universe in Tai Chi class.  It's cool down, standing meditation after form practice.  We stand like marble, all of us lined up and relaxed (most of us appear to be relaxed).  We breathe deeply and naturally and raise our arms in front of us as if to hold a beach ball.  I slip easily into the "empty mind" framework.  I hear a couple of kids bouncing balls in the gym.  The noise fades...and I feel comfortably alone and warm.  I can feel the "nothingness" inside and outside of me.  If I had to put a color to it, it would be painted golden ochre.  I know there are friends on either side of me, yet at the same time, no one is there.  I feel just like my burnt sienna washed canvas called Invisible Planet, the Jupiter like planet is there, but barely.  The brush skimmed the canvas and swirled out a planet without meaning to create it.  The painting stands stark still and I'm not sure where (if anywhere) it is going.

I check back into Earth again.  "Cool Down" exercises continue to settle and calm energy (qi) circulated during Tai Chi Yang Long Form Practice (88 pattern).  The calming works!  Without the exercises I feel scattered recklessness of a runaway horse.  I come back in tune with the world around me in the gym: the lights, the basketballs bouncing, the shriek of kids playing....

I think about cranes and clouds....I think back to a pastel painting of Chinese Junks....The ships with painted sails of orange and fire rose up out of the charcoal water like Chinese dragons attacking the tiger.  I thought about painting again, in its own time.

Shaking ourselves out of our individual daydreams, we put on winter sweaters, coats, hats and head out, vanishing into the windows of our separate lives....

Tai Chi class is coming around again soon, where I stand all alone in the universe.

"I need a second hand!"

"Oh, you mean a watch with a second hand?"

" I have two.  I'll get one."

Let's "see,"

I don't think there are a lot of watches anymore that have second hands?

Are there watches anymore?  Who wears them?  When I put a watch on, it stops running.

The phone (or wrist watch/phone) carries the time and everything else.  Digital seconds tick away on the stove timers, microwaves, and equipment everywhere.

Is a great idea to donate usable items to others.  I also love items loaned or given by friends from charity shops or personal collections.  Energy is Present.

* "I'm being erased...."

Several years ago I experienced an ** "out of sink" (sync) experience.  I felt multidimensional?  What is this?

* A couple of days (daze?) ago I watched * Back to the Future movie, all of it, all at one "time."  Back to the Future is a blend of comedy, intensity, suspense, light, dark, space-time and more.  Photographs of people were mysteriously being erased in the movie?  Every time I watch these scenes, I learn something new, reluctantly.

This time I learned most of my sleeping dreams are actually observing myself, like in a movie.  Until recently, most of my current life was spent observing a timeline, rather than experiencing and enjoying moments.  Now that I am more aware, now what?

As the the movie unrolled, I also noticed the time travel car's dashboard programed for "time" of arrival and departure....what does that mean?  Shades of keypads to come ~ rethink keypads?

One Minute Meditation
+ After seeing the numeric dashboard, I thought about number combinations "noticed" often on the digital clock such as 11:11 (new beginnings, being rewired to receive higher vibrations safely).  Lately I pause and take a couple of deep breaths, stand still, free of thought, and stretch while these sequences float by.  Sometimes the minute is "long" and sometimes it is very short.  When the clock changes, I continue on with my day or night~

If get a full minute to watch the clock in stillness, I get restless.  "This is the longest minute ever."  Other number combinations I watch are 444 and 108.  However, when "I stop the clock" I feel better!
