ONE LINERS

What is a one liner?

A one liner is resting the pen or pencil on paper and letting it float around, creating  images in any style or shape.  The bunny is a great example, one line continuous and full of fun.  Drawing with pen on paper at night is a quiet relaxing yet adventurous event.  Free of thought in mind, body and spirit, what will appear?  Recently this bunny made an entrance.  Someone commented, "This is the real essence of a bunny!"

What Fun~

Back in school in art class we learned about contour drawing, gesture drawing, drapery studies, detail, and more.  Black and white and shades of grey plus colors with pencil, water color, pastel, and oil.  Lights and darks with action and stillness scenes dance across our vision boards in endless harmony, disharmony.  Cascades of brightness and darkness add accents.

And now we have technology to help us!  Parades of images light up our days and nights.

Simple unplanned sketches at bedtime open windows of freedom and give a feeling of success and accomplishment at day's end.  Sleep and restorative rest can come more quickly.

"But I don't draw," you say.

No matter!  Lines or squares or swirls, of diamonds or heart shapes and random scribbles are all good, and you can color them in if you like.  Crayons rule!  Real easy and no clean up~

A bit of fun goes a long way.

These sketches developed over a period of days or even weeks.  Usually I try for three quick drawings per night, real quick.  Sometimes one or two are drawn, or sometimes nothing at all.

All OK

"Look Out, here I am!"  A terrier is on the alert.  His true watchful protective personality comes alive with a few lines.  This is a more scribbly drawing than the bunny above.  A few circular lines are in the dog, keeping it simple and edgy yet complete.

The young hound stares wistfully at us, inviting.  This drawing almost looks like it's made with loops of string.

Moving right along into more fanciful energies, a tree appears and then a dancer in motion springs from the its truck and branches.  This drawing contains some elements of the gesture (fluid motion) drawing technique.  Quick as a wink, a picture is born, fun and playful.

Night time is near and the stars come out.  Star Speed feels wispy yet powerful, universal yet personal, ethereal yet solid.

"The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper,"
W. B. Yeats
