ANGEL IN THE SKY
Recently a showery thunder quickly passed overhead to open up a sunset spectacular! I saw an upward column of golden coral transparent light rise vertically to balance the blue denim and purple patch of clouds splashed on the right. Some balloon dirigible shaped clouds floated by, ringed by silver and golden auras on their exterior borders.
No time to run outside, I grabbed my pocket digital camera and shot two scenes through the front picture window, depressing the flash mode. On the third shot, the batteries went dead!
* Rob commented, "It's like a Fantasia sky!"
The next day a friend called and said, "Did you see the Angel in the Sky last night?"
"No, but I took two pictures."
"Well," she continued, "We were down at the beach overlook. We had a wide view panorama of sky and there was a huge Angel in the sunset! Her wings spread out to cover the entire sky. She was riding on the back of a dolphin or whale shaped purple cloud."
"I'll have to look at my photos and call you back!"
Looking at my pictures on the big screen was "rather dull." One photo showed promise of color and light, the other was a no show. Undaunted, I printed out a hard copy of the best photo and re-scanned it into the computer with highest dpi (resolution). Next I looked at all three photos. "Nothing" on the digital images on the computer screen showed the light and angel form? Where was the Angel?
This morning I uploaded the best unretouched image of the sunset onto the blog. The Angel appeared as if by magic!
As you look upward, see the Angel's head like a light form (no face) and the golden wings spreading back over the marine form of blue/purple clouds. The image is rather like a comet with a trailing tail. The feathery leaves of the sugar maple on the left and the silver maple sapling in the middle give a feeling of a Chinese painting, a balance of light (Yang) and dark (Yin).
One of my friends commented that the "Angel" form is like a sideways view of a huge sweeping owl, with wings spreading and gliding.
* In a scene from Fantasia movie, I "see" Diana, the huntress, shooting the comet arrow from her bow to blanket the night sky with stars .
Soon our own night sky will be covered with the cloak of incoming shades of night and then a sprinkling of stars.
Catch the Moment!

* Walt Disney's Fantasia cartoon classic movie (1940), is music in motion captured by artists' imaginations. The Pastoral Symphony (6th) by Beethoven, A Day in the Country segment, features an ancient Greek Mythical Play of fanciful creatures, a surprise storm, clearing skies, sunset, then into the night. My favorite, the Pegasus Family, brings flying horses to life with color and motion.

A WALK IN THE DARK
Sun has set...off to the beach!
"It's a poem written in Earthscape...."
Clouds, Stillness
Water waves touch shoreline. Primal. Cosmic. Softness and Rock Solid Combine. Ever Evolving Yin and Yang.

Sand
Pebbles
Rocks
A swimmer strokes by, later he swims the other way, kind of like watching a carnival game.
Dogs and People pepper the beach.
Tai Chi practice at water's edge, become the sand-rocks-water-sky. Feel strength of legs and arms and give gratitude.
** Lights Lit
*** Darkness Falls
Upward walking over sand ridges toward the car. "Little dunes" Rob calls them. Watch the uneven sand. I walk like a cat, tenderly at first, then full weight. Like walking meditation: step by step, one at a time and mindfully.
Looking around, I feel night drawing its first curtain like a sheer silent blanket.
Rob and Paul are way ahead!
"We should have brought a flashlight!"
Several days later as I write, a sudden downpour sweeps in from the lake complete with rolling thunder and vivid lightening. As if on cue, the following song lyrics catch my ear:
**** "All I know it's pouring rain, and everything has changed...."

* Claude Monet painted many sailboats and vibrant water. I am thinking of Monet as a young man with his teacher, Johan Jongkind, painting the upraised masts of the empty boats resting at shore, waiting patiently to sail. Jongkind was a Dutch painter and printmaker.
** As dusk falls, I imagined James McNeil Whistler, an American Impressionist, painting his nocturnes especially of Battersea Bridge with spatterings of gold and blue.
*** Today I saw a picture in an office of Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Night on the Rhone. I stood in front of the print and saw creatures in the sky. There were boats by the water in the dark blueness, masts pointing skyward! The stars were bright and thick calling my eye back. In the painting, I saw a couple wrapped up in the chilly evening, heading for home.

WOLF VISION
He came out of the mist and became a strong, clear vision
* I saw an image of a young male wolf in the silent section of a guided meditation. He was alertly lounging on layers of rock. He seemed restless, anxious as he looked back over his shoulder. His claws dug into the rock ledge, ready to spring into retreat or assertiveness in seconds. Like a cat, his ears were pointed in two different directions: listening, waiting, watching. "He sees, He Knows...."
There were only two colors in the painted vision. The black and tan wolf and the dark golden ochre background, the color of natural oak wood. The vision looked like black ink brushed over a wooden surface.
After the meditation, I came slowly back into full consciousness. Wolf Vision begged for paint.
** Wolves are teachers. He had floated into my quiet mind to teach me.
"What?"
"Relaxed Alertness"
Relaxed Alertness is a good description of Tai Chi practice.
Then my mind drifted into Tai Chi meditation/exercise.
*** In Tai Chi "Become like a Young Kitten," Jou, Tsung Hwa's words came in clear.
A kitten is so playful and curious! Her mischievous shoe button eyes open wide with wonder as she chases a butterfly.
Then I smiled as I recalled Master Jou's description of the mother cat teaching her young. The older cat's reflexes are slower than her kittens' scattered actions but she has wisdom and knowledge to teach them how to hunt and lessons for survival.
The young wolf in the vision is like our Tomcat poised to spring at the slightest hint of danger. I noticed this as Tom ate his meal on his cat counter, his hind claws "dug" into the quartz as he prepared for possible fight or flight, even in his home as in the wild.
Vision Accomplished:
After the meditation, I "found" a small canvas already painted with the thick slashes of golden ochre oil paint! I had stashed this away years ago and forgotten it! This is the exact background I had seen in my mind picture. Eagerly I brushed in the wolf and rocks with quick strong strokes and black oil paint, "painted" in ink brush style.
Painting completed, I stepped back to inspect the results. In the speckled afternoon sunlight, I noticed "golden halos" surrounding figures or objects. One friend saw a Big City in the full view painting above. The photo below shows detail.
